Welcome! Thank you for connecting with me and for seeking my doula companioning support. I am Allison Tate (she/her) and I am a birth and death doula living in Midlothian. I am also mum to 3 wonderful boys and have been supporting and companioning families as a doula since 2013, prior to which I was an Occupational Therapist for 14 years, spending over half of those years supporting families and children within the preschool/school-age system and within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. I prioritize doula support for families across Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Scottish Borders, and my support is primarily virutal and consultancy based.
As a doula, advocacy, human rights and trauma prevention are at the core of my values when I companion you through your birth or death experience, and I fully support all choices and all people. I am an Amplifier with the National Perinatal Taskforce where I actively educate to eliminate racial and class disparities in birth outcomes, and strive to create equity and power in maternal child health care. I want you to feel safe, heard and respected and to ensure your human rights are upheld.

I have personal experience of preterm and term birth, pregnancy loss and parenting in the NICU through the births of my own children, as well as a wide range of experience supporting birth and perinatal death as both a birth companion and a birth assistant. I have supported people as a doula in different countries, including the USA for 8 years, providing support within different healthcare systems and settings.
I have completed (and continue to undertake) multiple trainings to support all pregnancy, birth and neonatal death experiences. I am ready to show up for you, to center you and to hand your experience of birth or death back to you. You can learn all about my qualifications and continuing education on “My Companioning Training” page.
I love the beach and horseriding, so when I’m not companioning, that’s where you’ll find me, or on the football fields or the golf course with my sport-loving boys! I look forward to getting to know you, and providing you with the birth or death companioning support that you want, need and deserve.
