Welcome! Thank you for connecting with me and for seeking my doula companioning support. I am Allison Tate (she/her) and I am a doula living in Peebles, Scottish Borders with my husband and 3 sons. I have been supporting and companioning families as a doula since 2013, prior to which I was an Occupational Therapist for 14 years, spending over half of those years supporting families and children within the preschool/school-age system and within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

As a doula, advocacy, reproductive justice and trauma prevention are at the core of my values when I companion you through your reproductive care experience, and I fully support all reproductive choices and all people. I am an Amplifier with the National Perinatal Taskforce where I actively educate to eliminate racial and class disparities in birth outcomes, and strive to create equity and power in maternal child health care. I want you to feel safe, heard and respected in you care experience and to know that you are the authority in your care, and are the expert in your own life.

I have personal experience of preterm and term birth (both in and out of hospital), pregnancy loss and parenting in the NICU through the births of my own children, as well as a wide range of experience supporting many different reproductive journeys as a birth companion and a birth assistant. I have supported people as a doula companion in different countries, including the USA for 8 years, and within different healthcare systems and settings.

I have completed (and continue to undertake) multiple trainings to support all pregnancy, birth, loss and neonatal experiences. I am ready to show up for you, to center you and to hand your experience of care back to you. You can learn all about my qualifications and continuing education on “My Companioning Training” page.

I prioritize doula support for families across Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Scottish Borders, although I am able to travel to different locations across Scotland and beyond, based on my availability and your individual need. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you live in other locations in Scotland, the UK or abroad and would like to chat through the ways in which I can support you.

I love the beach and horseriding, so when I’m not companioning, that’s where you’ll find me, or on the football fields or the golf course with my sport-loving boys! Thank you for reaching out to have your needs met, and I look forward to getting to know you, and providing you with the companioning support that you want, need and deserve.
