Welcome! Thank you for connecting with me and for seeking my doula companioning support. I am Allison Tate, my pronouns are she/her. I am originally from Scotland and have been living on Tocobaga land in the Valrico area of Florida (33596) with my husband and 3 sons since 2017. I have been supporting families as a doula birth companion since 2013, prior to which, I was an Occupational Therapist for 14 years, spending over half of those years supporting families and children within the preschool/school-age system and within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
Advocacy, reproductive justice and trauma prevention are at the core of my values when I companion you through your reproductive care experience, and I fully support all reproductive choices and all people. I want you to feel safe, heard and respected in you care experience and to know that you are the authority in your care, and are the expert in your own life.
I have personal experience of preterm and term birth (both in and out of hospital), pregnancy loss and parenting in the NICU through the births of my own children, as well as a wide range of experience supporting many different reproductive journeys as a birth companion. I am also a birth assistant for a home birth Midwife at Illuminated Midwifery and a volunteer bereavement doula with the Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation, a non-profit organization that exists to raise awareness of infant mortality in the African-American community and beyond.
I have supported people as a doula companion in different countries, within different healthcare systems and have completed (and continue to undertake) multiple trainings to support all pregnancy, birth and loss experiences. I am ready to show up for you, to center you and to hand your experience of care back to you. You can learn all about my qualifications and continuing education on my Linkedin Profile.
I prioritize supporting families across my home county of Hillsborough, although support across Pinellas, Pasco, Polk and Manatee Counties is based on availability and individual need – please do not hesitate to contact me if you lives in these Counties and are in need of support.
If you have found my website and are seeking support from a doula or birthworker who identifies as Black, indigenous and a person of the global majority (BIPGM) and/or Two-spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning and additional sexual orientations and gender identities, I work in community with House of Abundance, and I highly recommend them as a safe and affirming space where your needs will be met.
I love the beach, so when I’m not companioning, you’ll find me there, or on the soccer fields or the golf course with my sport-loving boys! Thank you for reaching out to have your needs met, and I look forward to getting to know you, and providing you with the companioning support that you want, need and deserve.
